Hello and welcome to part 5 of mindfulness @ Christmas. I hope you have been enjoying the first few days.
Today we are going to combine everything from the previous few days to help heighten your awareness of the present moment.
You have had an opportunity to be aware of the senses as separate things each day. Now we are going to take a few moments to combine the senses to fully submerse you in the present moment.
All too often we are ‘aware’ of what is going on around us, but when are we ever aware of everything. Too often we see but do not hear, we feel things without looking, you get the point.
So today we will layer the senses in until you are aware of everything around you. Almost like an over the top version of people watching.
Find a comfortable position for yourself and lets focus on awareness.
Gently close your eyes, let your body become comfortable.
Bring your attention to your breath, breathe in deeply and breathe out deeply.
Notice your chest gently rise and fall.
Breathe in through your nose, and out through your mouth. Bring your attention to what you can smell as you breathe.
Are the smells subtle or over powering.
Notice what you smell.
Then bring your attention to how your hands are resting, what are they touching? your skin? your clothes? maybe the arms of a chair?
How do your hands feel as they touch something? The pressure of your finger tips, how your hands are positioned, palms up or palms down.
Notice what you feel.
What do you begin to hear, the gentle song in the background, my voice, the sound of your own breath.
Notice what you hear.
Begin to combine these three senses, notice the heightened awareness you have through your body. Not only are you relaxed and calm, you are also extremely aware of yourself in this exact moment.
There is only one more sense for us to add in, when you are ready softly open your eyes. Take your time to allow your eyes to focus, no judging, no questioning, look around you.
Notice what you see.
Enjoy a few moments to be with all your senses.
See if you can bring this awareness of all your senses into your day today.
Let your breath return to its natural rhythm, wiggle your fingers and your toes.
Enjoy your day.
Thank you for listening.
