Hello and welcome to part 8 of mindfulness @ Christmas.
Christmas lights are EVERYWHERE. In windows, on trees or designed to create reindeers and candy canes.
They grab your attention without you even realising. However when was the last time you gave yourself a moment to really enjoy the lights at Christmas.
Today we are focusing on the calming and relaxing effect of the Christmas lights, so that anytime you see christmas lights you can remind yourself of this relaxation.
Find a comfortable place, you might even wish to have fairy lights on before you start, the choice is yours.

Softy close your eyes, relax your shoulders and your let your arms feel heavy.
Bring your attention to your breath.
Notice the in breath and the out breath.
How gentle and relaxed your breath is within your body.
Enjoy a moment with your breath.
Now imagine there is a beautiful Christmas tree in front of you, bring your attention to the lights in the tree.
Take a moment to enjoy how the lights bring the tree to life. How the lights make the tree feel brighter, more inviting for you to notice it.
What do you notice about the lights on the tree? The colour? The size of the lights? Do the lights flash in a pattern or do they have a soft warming glow?
Allow yourself to become lost in the lights for a moment. Focus on nothing else. Notice how you begin to breathe slower and more gently as you observe the lights on the tree.
Do you begin to notice how you start to feel relaxed, how the gentle brightness of the lights bring a feeling of positivity to you.
We associate brightness with positive and darkness with negative, which is what allows us to enjoy the beauty of the lights at Christmas.
They bring positivity and joy just from being there for us to observe. They brighten up the dark streets to let us know there is something positive within the darkness.
So allow yourself to enjoy the lights today. Smile whenever you see them, take a moment to appreciate them.
Take one more nice deep breath in and out.
Gently open your eyes ,and enjoy the lights when you next see them.
Enjoy your day.
Thank you for listening.
