Podcast script: Mindfulness @ Christmas Day 11

Music credit – Snowflake BORRTEX

Hello and welcome to part 11 of mindfulness @ Christmas.

If you have not given in to accepting a mince pie or a chocolate from a selection box, you have more will power than I.

With the treats of Christmas being all around, today we are going to focus on mindful eating. To often we eat on the go or eat while working.

What if you give yourself just a few moments to completely focus on eating.

So make yourself comfortable, Christmas treat is optional (you do not have to pop to the shop to buy yourself some chocolate coins ….. unless you think that will help with this relaxation)

Adjust your shoulders and your hips, allow your body to become comfortable.

Bring your attention to your breath, breathe in and breathe out.

Notice how bringing your awareness to your breath allows you to focus on the here and now.

Allow yourself to focus on an item of food you will be eating today, or have eaten.

Take a moment to notice what the food looks like, its texture, smell, temperature, was it hot or cold.

Then how the food feels as you put it into your mouth. The texture on your lips, the temperature change to the inside of your mouth.

Then how the food feels as you chew, how the taste changes with each bite down on the food to break it into smaller pieces.

Allow yourself to focus on the taste. Does it remind you of anything other than what you are actually eating.

Then finally swallow. Feel the food as it moves down your throat. Notice the taste and texture the food has left in your mouth.

Be aware of the fact you have just eaten something for a moment.

How did the food make you feel. Was it something you regularly eat but maybe noticed different things about it, or was it something new and maybe you will not be in a hurry to eat it again.

Take one more deep breath in and out.

Let your breath return to its natural rhythm. Wiggle your fingers and your toes.

Softly open your eyes.

Enjoying being aware of the foods you eat today.

Thank you for listening.
