Hello and welcome to part 19 of mindfulness @ Christmas.
Today is something common at Christmas time. You might have to spend time with people you do not necessarily get on with amazingly well.
Differences of opinion, clashes of personalities. Various reasons why you might just not gel with some people.
Which can make situations uncomfortable.
Today we are going to look at being able to take away those feelings of awkwardness and maybe anxiety when in a room with someone you don’t quiet get on with.
Before you think ‘I get on with everyone’, nobody gets on with everyone all the time.
So lets see how we get on with todays mindful task.
***Music starts***
Adjust your shoulders, your hips, softly close your eyes.
Breathe in deeply, breathe out deeply.
As you breathe, notice how the slowness of the breath begins to calm your body.
Take a moment to feel your breath.
Now bring to mind a person who you do not quiet get on with.
Notice how your body and mind begin to feel when you think of this person.
Does your mind begin to have negative thoughts, tension begin to build in your body when you think of this person.
Take a moment to notice the thoughts and feelings when you think of this person.
The thoughts and feelings you are now aware of, breathe deeply and with each out breath let go of the thoughts and feelings.
Use the out breath to release yourself from these feelings that are created when you visualise this person.
Keep this person in mind and notice how you slowly let go of thoughts and feelings brought up by this person.
Breathe in and breathe out.
Be aware of your body and mind, begin to relax again.
Notice how you now feel with this person in mind. How you have allowed yourself to notice the thoughts and feelings, to then let them go and allow yourself to just be. Be still, grounded and connected to the stillness within you.
When you see people today who you do not quiet get on with. Notice the feelings and thoughts they bring up, acknowledge them and then let them go.
See if you can let go, to make a situation feel more comfortable for you.
Take one more deep breath in and deep breath out.
Let your breath return to its natural rhythm, gently wiggle your fingers and toes. Softly open your eyes.
Thank you for listening.
