Podcast script: Door

Music credit: Aube – REMY BOURGEOIS

Hello and welcome to episode 21 of grounded in stillness. As another year ends we open the door into a new year.

A new year means many things to many people. However this relaxation is not going to focus on looking back at the previous year or planning ahead.

Instead allow me to provide you with those few moments to connect to this exact moment. Because each moment is all we have.

Enjoy this relaxation which focuses on the moment you open the door into the new year, as the famous saying goes ‘as one door closes, another opens’.

So find yourself a comfortable position to relax in, sitting or laying the choice is yours.

***Music starts***

Adjust your shoulders, adjust your hips.

Allow your body to feel heavy in place.

Slowly close your eyes.

Take these few moments to become aware of your breath.

Breathe in deeply, breathe out deeply.

Become aware of the length of your breath. The slowness of your breath.

With each out breath allow your body to feel heavier, and heavier in place.

Breathe in, breathe out.

Now begin to imagine you are stood in front of a door.

You notice the size of the door.

The shape of the door.

The colour of the door.

You realise the door is in your way from moving forward.

However instead of opening the door and moving forward, you allow yourself these few moments of stillness.

To observe how it feels to stop.

To observe your breath.

Breathe in, breathe out.

You begin to notice the door has a small stained glass window near the top.

You take in the colours as the light shines onto the glass.

The pattern the stain glass window creates.

As your eye gaze travels down the door, you notice the grain of the wood.

Before you were only focused on the colour, but now you see past the colour to the details.

The details you would only notice when you take a chance to be completely present.

You then see the handle of the door.

The shape, the size, the colour.

You feel as your arm slowly moves and your hand and fingers adjust so you can hold onto the handle.

You notice the texture of the handle, the temperature of the handle.

Then you pause, for one, last moment.

You feel the deepness of your in breath, the deepness of your out breath.

You take in the door one last time. Realising it is ok to take a moment to stop.

To take a moment to breathe.

You then open the door.

Moving through the door and into the new year.

However now you have this feeling of calmness and space, as you reconnect to the deepness and slowness of your in breath.

The deepness and slowness of your out breath.

Welcome this opportunity to be present and connect to yourself.

Breathe in, breathe out.

Gently take one more deep breath in, deep breath out.

Allow your breath to return to its natural rhythm.

Slowly wiggle your fingers and your toes.

Take your time as you open your eyes.

I wish you all the luck and happiness for this coming year. Be present and enjoy every moment.

Thank you for listening.
