Hello and welcome to episode 8 of grounded in stillness.
2018 is coming to an end. Today is the 31st of December after all.
You will be aware of new years resolutions and people wanting to put this year behind them as quickly as possible.
However the value of processing 2018 will be so important for you in 2019. How do you know what you want to achieve or do without reflecting on what this year had in store for you.
So make yourself comfortable. Time to reflect on 2018.
Adjust your shoulders, your hips, allow your body to feel heavy.
Breathe in deeply and breathe out deeply.
Bring your attention to your breath for a moment, the pattern your breath makes.
Notice how your breath becomes softer and slower as your body allows you to relax.
Breathe in and breathe out.
Imagine you are sitting at a table and there is one book in front of you.
This book is large and looks rather well used, the cover is your favourite colour, when you look closer the numbers two, zero, one, eight are embossed onto the cover.
You briefly flick through the pages and notice this book is full of every thought and event that happened to you this year.
You hold the book close to your chest and notice the weight of it. Is it heavy or light, does the book feel thin or fat?
Breathe in deeply and as you breathe out deeply feel the book become heavier with extra pages with your final thoughts of 2018.
You then place the book back onto the table.
You gently open the cover.
Chapter 1 – January, you take time to reflect on the beginning of 2018. How the year started for you, did you ever think the year would have turned out the way it has? How does January make you feel.
You gently move through the chapters of your book, one month at a time. Slowly turning the pages and being aware of your thoughts and memories, the highs and lows on 2018.
Do any months seem particularly full in your book, when you look back do you notice any times you could have been kinder to yourself. Situations you could not have predicted or prevented from happening.
The feelings and emotions that looking back at 2018 bring up, allow yourself to feel.
Notice the thoughts and feelings you have and as you breathe out, let go, allow yourself to relax as you understand what has happened has happened, 2018 has shaped you exactly as it was meant too.
Breathe in deeply and out deeply as you let go of anything you have been holding onto from 2018.
You begin to get closer to the end of the book. Fewer pages to turn and you know the year is almost ready to end. How does it now feel to come closer to the end of 2018 as you almost finish the book.
Are you ready to close the book on 2018?
Do you feel calmer, more relaxed. Have you made peace with yourself and events that appeared in your book from 2018.
You turn the last page of 2018. Feel the back cover of the book as it closes.
You smile to yourself and breathe in deeply and out deeply.
It is time to breathe in the unknown and opportunity, breathe out all that has already happened.
Breathe deeply and focus on the out breath, letting go of 2018.
Take one more nice deep breathe in and out, slowly allow your breath to return to its natural rhythm. Gently wiggle your fingers and your toes.
Softly open your eyes.
You are ready for 2019.
